Since 1926

From thick cotton capes hand oiled with linseed oil to modern technical materials like Gore-Tex®, Grundéns has proven that it can weather any storm. Since 1926, Grundéns has remained a trusted choice for those who go out on the water, regardless of the era, let's see why.

1911

The Idea - Pre Grundéns

The idea started in 1911 after, Carl A Grundén, the son of a Swedish fishermen, was fishing the north sea and realized there was a need for gear that actually kept fishermen protected from the elements and comfortable enough to work.

1911-1926

Local Workshop to Launch Of Grundéns

Carl’s oil skins grew in popularity until WW1 ended his supply chain. However, a decade later Carl started all over again and founded the company Grundéns Regnkläder AB. A name synonymous with fishing across the world, producing handmade capes and jackets made to order in small batches for fishermen, by fishermen in western Sweden.

1930’s

Rubber Textiles

The 1930's Grundéns began innovating with rubberized gear, looking for protection balanced with mobility. The new material was lighter and offered more flexibility and movement than oilskins. This also eliminated the strong smell of linseed oil, and was even more abrasion resistant, comfortable, and allowed faster production. Grundéns was becoming more than a local workshop at this point.

1950’s

Birth Of Herkules

1954 - The world famous Herkules Bib is created using PVC. The bib that set the standard for all waterproof fishing gear and set Grundéns apart as the orange rain gear on all hardcore fishermen’s boats.

1950’s-1970

Growth & Expansion

With orders across North America, and all of northern Europe, Grundéns was quickly becoming a favorite of commercial fishermen across the world, and had become a part of commercial fishing culture.

1972

Portugal Factory, America’s Cup

In 1972 Grundéns moved production to Lisbon Portugal, opening a factory. The moved allowed for better quality control and expansion of product line. Grundéns became the official sponsor of the America's Cup in 1977 and became well known on both coasts of America.

1991

Grundéns USA & New Markets

1991 the Jackson family founded Grundéns USA. Mike Jackson, spending much of the 70's and 80's on the Alaskan King Crabber F/V Kevleen K used that knowledge and ethic as the backbone of what Grundéns would become today. Three years later, Grundéns launches Grundéns South America in Chile.
